One thing that usually means a huge increase in service calls for cold side technicians is a heatwave – and Europe is in the middle of one of the worst warm weather stretches in history. UK industry magazine Foodservice Equipment Journal reports on the effects of this heatwave:
Tod Harrison, the CEO of Flowrite Services, has said that if the systems are not properly maintained this could lead to unhappy staff, spoiled food and drink stock and ultimately lower profit margins.
On 26 July last year, temperatures reached their seasonal peak at 35.5 degrees (ED: 96F) in the UK. On this day alone, we received 379 emergency call-outs to repair broken air conditioning units and refrigeration systems. This marked an 85% increase compared to the same day the week before.
Stories like this are a good reminder for anyone with refrigeration systems to ensure their equipment is kept in good shape. A breakdown can be an extremely costly lesson for owner/operators.
