Two wires going to a switch that are different colors, so you don’t know which way they go?

 

Hmmm…  That’s a tough one.

 

Well, I suggest that you wire it according to the wiring diagram.  If you don’t have one, then I suggest that you call a service company.

Off the top of my head,  You must be referring to a ICE model with the control panel inside on the left with a three position butterfly switch for power and a spring loaded butterfly for purge.  If I am correct on this, as you look at he switch back you have 3 terminals. You need the center and the one that the butterfly handle is  in on (down).  Easily checked with a ohm meter as the normally open terminals.  The center spade is common.
