why is my ice machine beeping

What’s the model?  How many consecutive beeps are there before it pauses for three seconds and repeats? 

 

There are anywhere from one to seven beep patterns that are possible.  The number of consecutive beeps in a group is a code indicating a specific type of failure.  The first three are the most common:

 

1 Beep – High temperature measured at the evaporator outlet

2 Beeps – Long Harvest Cycle

3 Beeps – Long Freeze Cycle

4 Beeps – Shorted Circuit on Mechanical Bin Sensor

5 Beeps – Open Circuit on Mechanical Bin Sensor

6 Beeps – Low Voltage supplied to Machine

7 Beeps – High Voltage Supplied to Machine

 

There are a variety of possible causes for each code shown above.  It’d be most prudent for you leave the machine as it is (don’t turn off and don’t unplug).  Call a service company to check it out.
