Hello,
Â
Here’s the manual for the Manitowoc Ice B-Series, including the BY0154a. http://download.partstown.com/is-bin/intershop.static/WFS/Reedy-PartsTown-Site/-/en_US/manuals/MAN-B-Series_sm.pdfÂ
Â
If your Manitowoc Ice machine is making ice but not releasing it you could have an issue with the ice thickness probe. The water flow needs to contact the probe to initiate harvest.Â
Â
If the probe is clean and working properly, it’s possible the water curtain is jammed up in some way. Since the hot refrigerant gas warms the evaporator and causes the cubes to slide off the evaporator and “harvest” by falling into the bin, if you open the water curtain manually and the cubes fall like they should, then you know the evaporator is getting warm enough.

While going over the above manual, I found that if your machine shuts down at 3.5 minutes, you have tripped a safety limit built in to prevent major component damage. There are multiple problems you may be experiencing.
Â
Â
Water system:
Evaporator dirty Dump Valve malfunctioning or dirty Vent tube not installed on water outlet drain Water freezing behind evaporator Plastic extrusions and gasket material not securely mounted to evaporatorElectrical System:
Ice thickness probe out of adjustment or dirty Bin switch defectiveRefrigeration System:
Non-Manitowoc components Water regulating valve dirty or defective Under or over refrigerant charge Defective head pressure control valve or harvest pressure control valve (on remote units only) Defective hot gas valve TXV flooding Defective fan cycling controlÂ
So, there’s a multitude of possible issues here. I’d start with the most obvious though. Be absolutely certain all components are clean and sanitized. This machine has seen more than a few years of service.Â
Â
In case you were wondering, I found this information on page 102 of the manual (listed as page 107 in the PDF)
These old PDFs can be a bit tough to navigate since users cannot search through the text using the Find command.
Â
I hope this helps!

There is a lot in the “B” model service manual that doesn’t apply to the BY0154 or 155. Being a under-counter it doesn’t have all the same controls. Two things come to mind that will do this in 3.5 min. Curtain reed switch or compressor discharge Thermistor sensor. On the bigger machines they used a high head pressure reset switch. Check under it and see if the condenser is clean and the fan is running at speed and cooling properly. If so ohm out the thermistor.
