Home Forums Trying to install power cord on Hobart LXec. Installation guide says to connect black wire to L1 and white wire to N. Not sure from schematic which is which. Is it safe to assume the L1 is the connection with a black and a gray wire running from it, and N

When in question, use an ohmmeter to verify which wire is which.  The wide blade of the cord cap is neutral.

National electric code reserves certain wire colors for specific thing.  Orange is for the wild leg of a 3 phase delta system.  White and gray are for nuetral.  Green, green/yellow are for ground.  Manufacturers can use all other colors as they want.  Orange is also used to mark inter-duct to indicate fiber optic.

Thanks ectofix. My question is about the hookup in the machine. Not sure if the schematic is accurate concerning the positioning of the two connections. Should the black wire connect to the terminal with the black wire coming out of it?

Check the wire numbers that are on the schematic to correspond with the terminals. Your pic is a little limited and blurry to read the number to the transformer fuse.  From previous ones I’ve seen, the top is L! and the bottom is your nuetral.

Thanks fixbear. Even though the top one has white wires coming off of it, and the bottom one has black? Tried to get a better pic, if that helps.
