Have a frost top unit that had an expansion valve that continually hunted. Unit is under warranty, manufacturer has had us change the expansion valve . New valve does the exact same thing. Have changed the valve and the drier 2 times each and pulled vacuum to 500 microns each time. Any ideas as to what might be going on?

How is the bulb placement? Ive had this happen once on an air through coil. It ended up having an over-sized TXV. It would constantly huntEverytime it tried to maintain sh it would overcompensate and flood coil, then starve it, constanly back and forth. I understand in your case its a warranty issue though so you SHOULD be getting the correct size valve.

Thank you for the reply. This location actually has a second unit right next to the troubled unit and it has never had any issues. pressures hold great and frost is even from 1 end to the other. The bulb is mounted in the exact same place on both units, and both valves are identicle. Been waiting over a week now for the factory engineers to decide what they want to do next. Just lookin for ideas to try and not to look so bad to customer.

Had this  issue on a Delfield pizza prep box  Mod RT000A-30  our unit was not under warranty and another company had replaced the TXV. We found that the Refrigerant charge was incorrect on the tag and the unit was slightly undercharged. When top and bottom were both calling for cooling the top txv was starving. We added 6 oz of refrigerant. adjusted SH to 6 degrees on this valve  and unit works great. High side pressure was at 265. Not sure but hope this will help
