  • Charging cylinder conversion?

I’ve been useing a 16oz charging cylinder lately for certain repairs. The measurements on the cylinder are for r12 and r22 but I use it to carry R134a (I’ve done that from new so no other refrigerants have been in the cylinder). I can’t find anywhere if there’s a difference in volume between the different types. So far I haven’t had any issues charging an ounce less then the r12 measurements but want to find out the correct info. First post to the forums look forward to chatting!

Oh my, that’s a old method to charge. You still should weigh the charge out of your cylinder. R-12 @ 75F weighs 80.05 ponds per cubic foot. R134 is a lot lighter at 75.387. But when you look at the vapor volume/weight, it reverses. R12 is .44 pounds per cubic ft and R134 is .5743. The reason that it isn’t as efficient as R12.

I understand carrying it in a smaller container, but you still need to weigh the charge in.
