    Hey guys,

Is it safe to use a 5 microfahrad motor run capacitor on a motor that used a 4?

    Its a combustion blower.

Depends on the type of motor.  PSC May be ok short term.  Shunt wound capacitance start, capacitance run will be fine if the voltage rating is right.  When we had problems with vibration load matching we would often try a cap up or down to smooth it out.

Okay, from what I understand as long as my voltage rating is the same or higher, its fine as long as the mf is around the same.

I ended up finding a 4mf one so it all turned out fine.

Glad you made out ok.  Not sure where you are, But your closes branch of united will have a book called Modern Refrigeration.  It has a excellent section on motors and troubleshooting.  Even the new adjustable value capacitor uses.
