Fan motor replacement part
Posted by Gab on December 1, 2020 at 3:18 pmI’m looking for a replacement for this evap fan motor : ATSAW0301039. Anything that would fit instead?

Try searching for that motor using the manufacturer’s part number. W0301039

What pray tell are you working on? Most coolers use a 3.3 inch fan motor. We’ve gone from shunt wound or shaded pole watt motors to PSC and now EDM. Can you give us more on this?

The part crosses over to an Atosa undercounter unit.
Funny thing is that’s their OLD style evap fan motor while newer models use a…uh…muffin fan. I’ve NEVER seen a cooler or freezer using a muffin fan.

By the way. What’s an EDM? Never heard of that. Did you mean an ECM (electronically commutated motor)? Another name is a BLDC (brushless DC) motor.

You are right on the ECM. Sorry, hit the wrong key. I am not a fan of them due to the high cost and low reliability. At least with my power grid.

I’ve heard the horror stories. Glad I’m not doing refrigeration any more.
FWIW: RSES has a great webinar explaining how they work and how to troubleshoot the systems which run them.

3.3 inch shunt wound cost less than $30 to me. ECDM’s are $350. Guess what I replaced with.

That number comes back to a Atoso fractional shaded pole. So you are working on a small cooler. Like a prep table. Supera makes a generic one that comes with 3 fan blades and fits most units. Just make sure the armature stack is the right thickness for the power to make the fan run at the right speed.

About 8 years ago I came across my first Coke reach in cooler with smart technology. Variable frequency compressor and DC fan motors. It learned the opening and traffic times of the location and varied the cooling so that the product was cold at the time of traffic. A bit of a learning curve for a refrigeration tech. It didn’t run in closed hours and sensed when someone walked by it to cool and turn the lights on…
