Is anyone else having issues with these replacement parts being bad out of the box? PartsTown says no one is having this issue, but Garland says otherwise.

Just wondering if others are experiencing the same issues. We’ve been thru 3 of these, all bad out of the box.

That’s highly unlikely. More common is that your machine has a problem with wiring/connectors, power, or the motor. Or your blaming the controller for a safety system that is not functioning correctly. Like a door switch.

Tell us what the actual problem with the machine is. Maybe we can help you solve it.

Am I correct in that you have a McDonalds platen grill and the motor control you are questioning is for the platen actuator. If so, you should check the two microswitches on the actuator. Also the unit should have been troubleshooted with a DVOM prior to replacement. Was this done?. And don’t forget that a lot of them have a interlock to your exhaust hood.

Thank you for your response fixbear. The issue is indeed with the motor speed boards that keep getting shipped to us. We have tested out the board by switching it to a working machine, and the issue traveled with the faulty part each time. We have also taken the motor speed board out of a working platen, and tested it on the platen that was originally down, and the platen would start working.

I forgot to mention that the power transformer has to be set for the location’s power voltage. The input voltage should be measured with a voltmeter and the platen and power supply transformer voltage matched to that. Because solid state controls work on narrow voltage windows for a off and on signal, the supply voltage is critical.

Thanks for your reply fixbear. We finally got a Motor Speed Board that isn’t faulty (after 5 tries and 5 trips to the customer location). The grill is now operating to specs.

I have run into that. Turned out to be a compatibilty issue between the new speed board and the exisiting controller.

Garland has a chart showing which versions of each are compatible to work together.
