My ice maker produces about a dozen cubes of ice overnight and that is it, so it is trying. When I turn the machine on and off a relay in the board will click then a red LED on the board will light then go off. What is that and can anyone tell me if that is the issue?

Staart by fully cleaning the machine with the cleaner prescribed by Manitowoc and in you manual.

Did you clean the machine? With a 26 year old ice machine the plates may be etched and hanging during harvest. But your going to need to babysit it to find your problem. Here is a copy of the field tech handbook for reference and troubleshooting; UnderCounter Model Tech It covers a lot of variations of the undercounter machines, so be certain what your looking at is yours. And with the Q130’s there was a serial number break, so you’ll need that as well. Also check the harvest tray that the switch is closing. Sometimes it binds from mineral build-up. Again, cleaning with 1 oz Manitowoc cleaner is important.

You asked about the red LED on the board. It indicates the harvest switch. If you flip the deflector up and down it should change. When it lights, the relay changes the hot gas solenoid back to cooling. Pay attention to the time it takes from going into harvest vs. drop.

The light also helps to determine if the ice thickness probe is working correctly or dirty and conducting to ground. The most common problem we see. Cleaning again.
