  • Method for testing the limlt switch on a deep fryer

Posted by Nat on September 23, 2022 at 2:43 pm

    Hello.

When checking the limit switch, I turn off the working thermostat, and wait for the limit switch to work.

    This method has several downsides.

    1. Excessive smoke. 2. The presence of another person with a fire extinguisher in case of an oil fire.

Since the experience of servicing deep fryers is small, I want to ask.

    1. Is there a cheking method from the manufacturer deep fryer

    2. Perhaps there are other methods that are safer

    Thank

First off, no that is not how you test a limit switch. No where will you find something telling you to stand by with a fire extinguisher.

Also the make and model number of the piece of equipment is always helpful.

Some limits you can adjust when they trip.

Testing a limit safety in the field is not a recommended item. However, if you insist on testing it, it is normally tested off the unit. They use a special high temp oil in a special container with an inert gas to prevent the possibility of flash. With some units it is possible to attach a thermistor and use a heat gun. But many are protected and require removal of the sensing bulb. Jumping the thermostat is never a good option. And overheating it can damage it. As well as oxidizing and ruining a bunch of oil.

Be aware that they are intentionally made to fail open and below the design set level. Most Safeties are required to be fixed by safety codes.
