So I replaced a door gasket for my rational oven maybe a month ago, and now it is starting to shred because it is over hanging ever so slightly where the door hing is.

The original door gasket is no longer available and a new version has superseded it.
    Rational 20.02.551P DOOR GASKET

    Anyone run into this?

What to do now? They are not extremely expensive being $77.00 a piece but that is also not something cheap that I want to amortize.

Not sure what you mean by overhanging. Which door hinge? The top or bottom one?

Make sure the dart of the gasket is fully seated in the channel. Before installing the gasket, lightly coat the inside of the channel and the gasket dart with a mixture of dishsoap & water.

Also- seat all four corners first. Then bisect the side your working in the middle so there’s are equally sized “humps”. Press in that middle part. Repeat that with each hump…and so forth.

The idea is to ensure the gasket is evenly installed all around. When you’re done, the gasket should be level – with no waviness to it.

By the way. If the cooks are cooking at high temperatures allot and the gasket gets grease on it, that will quickly destroy the gasket.

They should clean the gasket daily to ensure its longevity.

Yea, I read that and installed it per the instructions but it seemed a but large.

The bottom left hing of the door is what was grabbing the gaskets and kept pulling on it. For whatever reason the gasket will not stay seated in that area.

I will take it back out and put the corner that is being “hammered” on the opposite side and put it in corners first then work it in.

The instructions I read from my manual didn’t say to do that, but it makes sense.

Be aware those door gaskets have an “up” and “down”- the gasket bottom has a clearly visible pinhole in it to allow air/water to escape.

Also make sure that bottom hinge is not just mounted too far in- maybe it got hit with a cart or something. Move it all the way out then put a dollar bill in between and adjust until it’s dragging.

sounds like the door is not adjusted correctly and needs to be readjusted.

This was resolved back in February. It was installed upside down.
