  • Scotsman Harvest pin getting stuck?

Posted by olivero on July 22, 2020 at 12:28 pm

Had an ice machine go out on error code “2” harvest problems, I watched it work for a while and the only thing I noticed was the harvest pin staying out when it should’ve retracted, i pulled on it and it seemed to be going through a lot of resistance, so I oiled it with some food safe oil and it started moving easily again.

Never had that before, any of you guys had this happen?

What model number is it? Also is the pin made of plastic?

I had a similar issue with my Scotsman ice machine which has a plastic float and the stem started to warp for whatever reason and would get stuck. Apparently for my machine this is common as it was included in the troubleshooting section.

The question is; Is it from metal corrosion or mineral build-up? Unfortunately it’s a bit difficult to remove the pin to check. Also that the pin has to not wick water into the bearing.

Normally any issues with the harvest assist motor could be solved by replacing it but sometimes the pin won’t go back in on its own. You can probably push the pin back in and start up

Pushing the pin in doesn’t solve the WHY! The customer will either call back again or hire another tech. Call backs are never good in any service industry.

The ice-o-matic 926 models have that issue sometimes. Could be a weak motor or scale buildup. Wasn’t really recommending it even though that’s what happened

    <div> scale buildup</div>

The cause of 90% ice machine problems. Not many operations that I’ve seen clean them regularly. Or maintain their water filtration systems.
