Had a TXV go bad on a Scotsman unit today, C1448MA-32A is the model.

The unit was tripping on max freeze and I thought it was the harvest probe, then I ran it and didn’t see any ice forming on the left side but after 20-30 minutes, a good 3/4″ block of ice had formed on the right side!

Since it never shut off as the harvest triggers on the left side, it was dropping massive bricks of ice.

Went ahead and put in a TXV and then after putting it on a vacuum realized I forgot to put a new drier in it.

Then I went looking for it and couldn’t find it, so I turned to the parts manual and it turns out it’s on the left side of the condenser.

This particular unit is in a corner so I guess I’ll never be able to change that drier, much less anything on the left side of the machine as there’s simply no way to get there.

    Gotta love these things.

That sir is a rarity. Unless the loss of the TXV was the charge. They do corrode and leak.  But very rarely does the actual valve fail

The filter/dryer should be on the condenser discharge line. (liquid line) Before the solenoid valve  And as close to the condenser as possible. In a burn up situation a HH filter is often added in the compressor suction line to protect the new compressor.

Yeah, it was a bit surprising, I doubt it was the charge, I think the valve itself failed.

    Works now though.
