Hi we have a rational at our restaurant model number SCC WE 101 /01. Recently It has been showing the service 41 message.

Full disclosure I’m not a trained technician but wear lots of hats and can turn my hand to most repairs around the restaurant.

For a while before we encountered this error message we were using the rational to smoke a bunch of stuff on a daily basis. I don’t think the 2 are related but as I mention I’m not an expert so just throwing that out there as it might mean something to someone else.

I managed to track down some steps to resolve the service message which suggested to switch out the triple solenoid and failing that the CDS censor. I switched both of these out (but not the wiring harness). I also removed the humidifying nozzle and descaled it.

It didn’t display the message again for a while but always said the maintenance status was bad even after multiple rinse and clean cycles all with rational tabs as required both blue and red.

It has begun displaying this message again and still says the maintenance status is “bad”. I’m not against calling a tech out to look but thought it might be worth checking here incase there’s something simple I’m missing like getting it into service mode and resetting after installing new parts or something simple I’m missing.

    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

I work on Rational ovens in-house at a big resort (we have twenty-six of ’em), which includes three White Efficiency versions.

Sounds like you resolved your initial issue by swapping the CDS sensor and the 3-way solenoid valve. Good for you for doing that.

However, you never mentioned the condition of the steam generator. If it’s scaled up, that can contribute to its indication for it still needing maintenance.

Of those red and blue tablets, the red ones clean the cooking compartment while the blue ones are meant to de-lime the generator. However, if you’ve not been feeding it those “pills” often enough, then scale inside the generator can still build up. The blue tabs are a weak acid, so not strong enough to tackle heavy scale.

IF the generator is scaled up bad enough, you won’t have the tools and proper chemical to tackle it. So you’d be better served by having it inspected by a
    technician.

Ok, Thanks for the help there.

We are in a pretty good habit of cleaning and at the very least running a blue tab through a rinse cycle every other night. But we do operate in an area with heavy lime scale and I’m not sure it’s ever had a proper descale beyond that in the past 5 years so that sounds likely.

Would it be the case if the steam generator was scaled up that it would operate on steam function fine but struggle to run at 50% humidity and still occasionally flag service 41?
