  • The techtown tool review program is open!

One other new feature of the relaunched techtown is our tool review program. We totally understand that technicians are really only interested in reviews of products when they get feedback on how the tool works in the field. So, instead of listening to the techtown mayor reviewing a new product, we’re asking our community to pitch in!

What this means is that you submit your information, we send you tools, and you write or record a review to share with everyone. After the review, the tool is yours to keep. Any members of the original techtown are instantly eligible to take part!

We’re kicking off the program by sending one lucky member the Testo Smart Probe AC and refrigeration kit mentioned in this post

    I’ll give it a go.

Is there any commitment to signing up for it other than having to write a review?

I think this is a great idea otherwise, I don’t think there’s much in the way of kitchen equipment tools since it’s such a versatile set of tools, it’s hard to get a straight answer since it’s either plumbers when dealing with gas manometers or HVAC techs when talking refrigeration, which are both dealing with a whole different set of equipment than we do.

I think this will be very beneficial for us Hot and Cold side guys.

Perfect! It is yours. Stay tuned for the next offer of a new tool to review.

Seems useful. I am hit and miss for phone connected tools. On one hand it is an easy way to store and track data, correlate multiple readings, and log the data. On the other hand do I really want my phone out in the situations that would require it, and if anything is needed to be done to the system I would still need my manifold set and hoses. On systems like R-290 it would be useful to not use the short hoses, but due to the fact access points cannot be left on a R-290 system you would still have to have your torch, pinch off tool, and piercing valve.

I could see using this on new installs or evaporator/TXV repairs where I would need to set the super heat. It would effectively reduce the manifold, clamp thermocouple, multi meter, and PT chart (on my phone) to these sensors and the phone.
