    As most of you know,
There is a plastic fan wheel on the back of a lot of motors which provides cooling for the motor.
I’m one of those fools who thought it would be brilliant to try and clean this plastic wheel through the back plate with a somewhat solid object while it’s on, thinking it would be faster and then ended up miserably destroying it…..

To then find out I HAVE to buy the whole motor to get it, well I was out of luck and just put it back together while sulking about it for a while.

Now though, today I had to take one apart to change the bearings and remembered this incident so I thought, why not try to draw one and 3D print it.

It’s printing currently, about a 9 hour or so print and it took me forever to get it drawn up due to all the details, curves and the fins, angle, bla. bla.

The original looks like the picture I posted, so we’ll see how my version turns out, I’ll post a picture when it’s done.

I wonder if this could be a good use of 3D scanning technology? I still have a 3D Systems Cubify scanner in a box somewhere, but usually spent longer cleaning up the captures than it would take to design from scratch… But that was 2015, and I’m sure a lot has changed since then.

Probably would be yeah, I’ve never used one so I don’t know how it works or how accurate it is.

The thing I like about drawing it myself is I can control every factor and make sure everything comes out perfect.

I’m sure 3D scanners would work if they are thing now but I haven’t heard much hype about them so I’m guessing they are still fairly inaccurate or perhaps some other flaw.

        Ankorite,

It’s PLA as that’s what was in the macine.

Hopefully it fits, the clearance is really tight.

A lot of these have a flat and a spring band to hold them as placed. Does yours?

      I don’t think so no, just 2 retaining C-clips.
