  • Your favorite wireless probes and gauges?

Interested to hear your thoughts on wireless refrigeration probes and gauges. I know that both Fieldpiece and Testo are the popular brands, but are there others you prefer, or do you avoid wireless altogether and prefer to stick to old analog?

I’d love to see photos of your setup! One thing that impressed me most seeing the Fieldpiece system in action is the number of sensors and other devices you can include; gauges, temperature probes and even your refrigerant scales and the vacuum.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I started out with the digital Sman360 by Fieldpiece which was great but it lacked what I now consider an essential function which is datalogging.

I then tried the Testo smart probes and didn’t outright love them at first, too much of a pain to set up and then finally figured out you could use a core removal tool with them and then you wouldn’t have to remove them on the system anymore to put on your hoses for charging or vacuum or whatever.

Now they are my preferred go to, hook them up with the CRT and then pull the schrader if doing any work, then valve it off and put the hose on it and you now have a traditional “Gauge” setup.

It’s much cleaner for doing troubleshooting as you avoid having to purge your entire gauge and hoses when switching refrigerant AND it has the datalogging feature so I can walk away and come back and see what happened while I was gone rather than have to stay there.

Or even better is doing blast chillers, freezers or fridges where it’s cold if you are in there long enough, I can hook up the Testo’s and walk outside the box with my tablet and watch from there, much better.

I don’t have any photos unfortunately, but I’ll take one next time I do some work on one of my systems.

Hands down, using wireless stubby gauges with temp clamps is the way to go, I also added the Testo micron gauge to my collection which is fantastic.

Have not been doing cold side very long. I started with the Testo 550 digial gauges with blue tooth and connected to Measure Quick. I do some work with a local HVACR company and they use Fieldpiece smart probes JL3KR4. I have decided to get a set for myself.
