How to Replace a Pitco Fryer Thermopile

Whether a part is defective or just worn out beyond repair, it’s vital you get it swapped out quickly and properly for your customer. Otherwise they could face lengthy downtimes. This guide on how to replace a Pitco fryer thermopile can help you get through the job.

Pitco Fryer Thermopile Replacement

Always ensure fryer equipment is powered down, cooled off and oil drained before you begin working.

  • Step 1. Unmount the pilot bolts – Loosen and remove the pilot bolts that are mounting the bracket. It can help to have an extension bit for your drill or impact driver. You can now pull the bracket toward you for easier access to the thermopile.
  • Step 2. Remove the thermopile – Using a 7/16, loosen and remove the retaining nut. Then the thermopile can be slid out the bottom of the bracket.
  • Step 3. Disconnect the thermopile – Start by checking for and removing any zip ties from the thermopile wire. Then loosen the terminal screws so you can disconnect the thermopile from the gas valve assembly.
  • Step 4. Install the thermopile – Start by installing the new thermopile onto the pilot assembly first. Slide it into place and secure it with the retaining nut. The nut just needs to be snug since it’s only holding the thermopile in place.
  • Step 5. Remount the bracket – Reposition the pilot assembly to the fry tank and secure it with the pilot bolts.
  • Step 6. Connect the thermopile – Connect the wire back onto the gas valve and secure it by tightening the terminal screw. Then zip tie the wire to keep it away from the drain valve handle and heated areas.Â
