How to: Furnace Installation

Nobody wants to be cold when the temperatures are low and uncomfortable. Make sure your furnace is installed and HVAC systems are ready for the weather. Below we have a how to: furnace installation guide that you can check out when you need to refresh your installation skills and get that furnace up ASAP.

Installing the Furnace

  • Step 1 – Check that the venting is sufficient enough to circulate carbon monoxide outside of the space.
  • Step 2 – Check that the furnace will have access to the gas line and an electrical outlet.
  • Step 3 – Clear the area where the unit will reside, making sure there is no debris or obstacles that could block airflow. Remove any combustibles and make sure the furnace will have the required clearance on all sides.
  • Step 4 – Review the manufacturer manual for any important information on furnace installation. Some models might require more steps than others, so it’s important to follow the OEM’s guidelines.
  • Step 5 – Place the furnace on a flat and solid surface, making sure it is level. Placing plywood under the unit is an option if it doesn’t move and still meets manufacturer standards.
  • Step 6 – Connect the electrical connections, following the manufacturer’s instructions and any local building codes.
  • Step 7 – Install the gas lines, making sure that holes are in the correct place and pipe fittings are correctly sized.
  • Step 8 – After making all connections and securing them, drain down the furnace. Open up the air intake damper until water starts coming out of the drain line.
  • Step 9 – Turn the power back on and check that the furnace is working. If there are no unusual noises, wait for the unit to accessorize itself. Make sure that the power-on light is staying lit.
