How to Replace a Bell & Gossett Booster Pump Bearing Assembly

Booster Pump Bearing Assembly Replacement Instructions
- Step 1. Remove the conduit box, the wire nuts and the flexible conduit connector in that order.
- Step 2. Using an allen wrench on the pump shaft coupler half, loosen the coupler.
- Step 3. With a box wrench, loosen the four motor cap screws and free the motor from the bearing assembly.
- Step 4. Slide the coupler free of the pump shaft.
- Step 5. Loosen the four body cap screws and shift the bearing assembly position slightly to allow for any pressurized water to escape, then remove the cap screws.
- Step 6. Pull the bearing assembly from the pump body.
- Step 7. Remove the impeller nut and impeller.
- Note: If the new impeller is metal with a flat back, use the brass metal washer atop the seal spring. If the impeller has a shroud on the back, don’t use the brass washer.
- Step 8. Replace the body gasket.
- Step 9. Fit the bearing assembly into the pump body and tighten the cap screws.
- Step 10. Connect the coupler to the bearing assembly shaft and reposition the motor.
- Step 11. Oil the bearing assembly.
- Step 12. Close the system drain valve then open the pump suction and discharge valves.
- Step 13. Reconnect the electrical power to the pump and check that it’s running properly.
