How to Test & Replace the RTD Sensor in a TurboChef Oven

When the RTD sensor in a TurboChef oven goes bad, you’ll get the call to replace it. Knowing how to do so will ensure you can get the job done quickly and efficiently. Here’s how to test and replace the RTD sensor in a TurboChef oven.

Supplies

  • Multimeter
  • Ice water

How to Test the RTD Sensor in a TurboChef Oven

  • Step 1. Disconnect the power and power down the unit. Allow the unit to cool sufficiently.
  • Step 2. Take the probe and stick it into the ice water.
  • Step 3. Take the multimeter and connect it to both sides of the RTD.
  • Step 4. After about 45 seconds, it should read between 98 and 102 ohms
  • Step 5. If the probe reads outside of that range, it will need to be replaced.

How to Change the RTD Sensor in a TurboChef Bullet

  • Step 1. Remove the phillip screws on either side of the hood.
  • Step 2. Pull the top cover straight back to unlock it and lift it up from the back to remove it.
  • Step 3. Remove the 10 pin connection on the relay board.
  • Step 4. Remove the 2 pin connection on the relay board.
  • Step 5. Remove the 8 pin connection on the relay board.
  • Step 6. Remove the 12 pin connection on the relay board.
  • Step 7. Remove the 4 corner screws holding the relay board in place.
  • Step 8. Take the relay board out of the oven.
  • Step 9. Remove the RTD by removing the 2 screws holding it in place.
  • Step 10. Cut the wires connecting the RTD to the oven.
  • Step 11. Insert the new RTD into the slot.
  • Step 12. Fasten the screws to hold it in place.
  • Step 13. Cut off the 3 pin Molex connector at the end of the wires.
  • Step 14. Use wire nuts to place the wiring back to the connection it was on.
  • Step 15. Put the relay board back in place and tighten the screws.
  • Step 16. Reconnect the connection pins.
  • Step 17. Place the top cover back into place and secure with screws.
