HVAC Heat Pump Installation
Setting up a new heat pump is a piece of cake as long as you know what you’re looking at. Follow these HVAC heat pump installation instructions to get started as well as to make sure everything is set up correctly.
Prepping the Area
It’s important to check the area that the old heat pump was sitting on to ensure the mat doesn’t need to be replaced and that everything is sitting level. If there’s damage to the mat, make sure it’s replaced with a new composite pad. This keeps the coils clear of snow and ice during the winter, which is crucial for the unit to run properly.
Removing the Indoor Evaporator Coil
- Disconnect the sheet metal plenum
- Install the new evaporator coil
- Connect and seal the new evaporator coil to the sheet metal plenum
Line Sets & Wiring
- Remove the existing refrigerant line
- Remove the small, low-voltage wire that runs from the furnace to the heat pump
- Inspect the thermostat wiring
- Reconnect the high- and low-voltage wiring and refrigerant line
Testing the Unit
Once the unit is completely installed, it’s important to run a commissioning phase that can last up to 45 minutes. This gives the refrigerant a chance to flow through the system. Make sure to test all of the following systems:
- Heating
- Cooling
- Defrost
