bytechtown
Part replacement and installations for HVAC equipment may be a common occurrence for you as a technician. If you’re new in the field or you haven’t seen the specific unit before, it can be difficult to execute the job properly. This guide will walk you through how to remove and install The Whalen Company WRX fan coil chassis so you ensure the job gets done properly.
Removing The Whalen Company WRX Fan Coil Chassis
Step 1. Power down the unit – Always fully show down HVAC equipment before performing replacements, installations and other repairs.Â
Step 2. Remove the panel – Loosen and remove the four screws mounting the return air cover. Then take off the cover.Â
Step 3. Disconnect the chassis – Unplug the chassis molex plug by depressing the two tabs on either side of it.Â
Step 4. Shut off the water – Use the two ball valves to close off the water supply to the chassis.Â
Step 5. Disconnect the hoses – Use a crescent wrench to remove the pipe fittings. Water may leak out so do this slowly.Â
Step 6. Remove the chassis – The chassis is now fully disconnected and can slide right out.Â
The Whalen Company WRX Fan Coil Chassis Installation
Step 1. Put the chassis in the unit – Line up the chassis so it is set on the rails and slide it into the unit.
Step 2. Connect the hoses – Reconnect the pipe fittings of the hoses. Make sure the supply and return are connected onto the correct ball valve.
Step 3. Purge the chassis – Slightly open the return ball valve. Then open both of the chassis actuator valves. You can then start to slowly open the supply valve to purge the air from the chassis, out through the return side. Once water starts coming out of the return, close the valves.Â
Step 4. Finish connecting the hoses – Secure the fittings on your hoses and slowly open both valves. Make sure to check for leaks at this time.
Note: Be careful not to over tighten or it will pinch the gasket.
Step 5. Release the air – At the coin air vents, take a flathead screwdriver and slowly unscrew it to allow trapped air to escape. Then tighten it back up and repeat the process. For a fourpipe unit, you’ll repeat this process on the other vent as well.Â
Step 6. Connect the molex – Plug in the molex. There will be an audible snap once it’s in place.Â
Step 7. Install the cover – Position the return air cover and secure it with the four screws.
Note: Always reenergine the thermostat and check for proper operation after performing an installation or replacement.Â
