How to Replace a Trane Rooftop Unit Blower Motor

Component failures can’t be left ignored. To get HVAC equipment fixed and running again, you need to make the swap in a timely manner. This guide will walk you through how to replace a Trane rooftop unit blower motor so you can get cooling and heating restored for the building.

Trane RTU Blower Motor Replacement

Always power down the unit and put on proper safety gear before beginning work on commercial HVAC equipment. 

• Step 1. Access the motor – Remove the panel covering the blower assembly compartment.
• Step 2. Remove the belt – There are two bolts at the front of the motor bracket. Loosen them to remove the tension from the belt around the motor pulleys. Then you can roll the belt off the pulleys. 
• Step 3. Remove the motor – There are the two front bolts on the motor bracket and two more at the back of the motor. Loosen and remove the four bolts. Then you can slide the motor and bracket out of the unit. 
• Step 4. Disconnect the motor – Disconnect the wiring harness from the motor. There may be zip ties present that you will have to cut and replace later.  
• Step 5. Replace the pulley – Using the proper allen key, remove the pulley from the old motor. Then install it onto the new motor. 
• Step 6. Connect the motor – Connect the new motor to the wiring harness. Wait to add new zip ties until the motor is securely installed.
• Step 7. Mount the motor – Secure the motor and bracket with the four bolts we previously removed. 
• Step 8. Close up the unit – Reinstall the belt and panels to finish the repair. Be sure to check that everything is working properly and you have cleaned up the area before finishing the job.
