Types of HVAC Safety Glasses

Types of HVAC Safety Glasses

Staying protected is an essential part of the job for HVAC technicians. Having the right gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs and more can protect you from injury on the job. Below we have listed types of HVAC safety glasses to keep your eyes protected while working. Don’t forget to check that your glasses follow any required safety regulations. For more information on regulations and PPE, check out OSHA’s website to find the resources you need to keep yourself safe.

Glasses

Glasses are a mandatory PPE when you are trying to prevent eye injuries. To protect your eyes from flying debris and fragments, some key features to look for are:

  • Impact resistance
  • Side shield protection
  • Filter lenses

It is important to check the fit of your glasses before starting any work. You could sustain injury if your safety glasses are not fitted properly. Some glasses can come with adjustable nose bridges to allow you a better overall fit. While it isn’t fully necessary, having fog-free or anti-scratch lenses may also make glasses more comfortable for daily use. It is important that you research before you make a decision on the types of hvac safety glasses you choose.

Goggles

Goggles protect the entire eye area from multiple dangers like particles, debris and splash hazards. The added protection allows you to protect against vapors and fumes from harsh irritants. Just like glasses, goggles can have different lens materials and tints that will protect your eyes from hazards. Cutting into woodwork requires different PPE than electric or gas welding, so look at the regulations for your specific tasks to help you decide what goggle lens you will want.

Shields

For a full-face protection, shields are the go-to safety gear. They protect against exposure to chemicals, heat or glare. Face shields are sometimes required over your primary eye protection (glasses or goggles), and they give an added layer of protection when working in more hazardous conditions. Every job site is different, so you should always try to have a variety of eye protection available for your use.
