New kits or retrofits need to be made on old units to keep them running efficiently. So if you’ve been called to get a unit updated but aren’t sure how the new component is supposed to be set up, you’re going to need a helpful guide. This video and article will cover how to install the pump motor replacement kit on a Perlick H50 ice maker so you can make the repair easily and ensure the unit runs after.
Removing the Perlick H50 Pump Motor
Step 1. Power down the unit – Always be sure to power down the unit by switching the toggle switch to OFF and unplugging the power cord.
Step 2. Remove the front panels – Loosen the screws to remove the front panel and the condenser panel.
Step 3. Access the control board – Remove the cover to gain access to the control board. You can also remove the hardware mounting the control board for better access.
Step 4. Connect the inline fuse – Locate the A1 terminal on the control board. Then connect the inline fuse female end into the control board and the male end to the wire that was previously connected to the A1 fuse.
Step 5. Update the wiring diagram – The kit comes with new wiring diagram stickers. Based on the serial number, place the sticker over the old wiring diagram on the back side of the front panel.
Step 6. Remove the slope – Disconnect the suction tube. Then while pressing on the tabs, pull out the slope from the unit.Â
Step 7. Remove the pump motor housing – Disconnect the drain tube. Then remove the housing by loosening the mounting screws.Â
Step 8. Remove the pump motor – Push up on the tab as you pull the motor out.Â
Step 9. Remove the door – Loosen the bottom hinge pin and then push up on the door and pull it outward and off.
Step 10. – Remove the top panel – Loosen all the screws and lift off the top panel.
Step 11. Disconnect the motor – Disconnect the wiring harness. Then fish it down so the motor can be completely removed from the unit.Â

Step 1. Install the new motor – Slide the new motor into place in the channels so it’s securely seated. Then snake the wires up.
Step 2. Remove the back pipe cover – Loosen the screws to remove the back pipe cover to access the wiring.
Step 3. Connect the wiring harness – Use the wire harness from the kit to connect to the motor and the other side to the piece that goes to the control board. There will be two red wires leftover on the harness.
Step 4. Install the capacitor – Drill a hole by using the self tapping screw to install the capacitor. Then connect the two leftover red wires from step 3. Then mount the ground wire.

Step 5. Reinstall the panels – Reinstall the back pipe cover, top panel and door.
Step 6. Install the housing – Reconnect the tube to the new pump motor. Then slide the housing back over it and secure it with the screw. You can then reconnect the drain house.
