How to Replace an Ice-O-Matic GEM & MFI Ice Machine Water Seal
bytechtown
Gaskets and seals are vital in equipment to ensure no leaks occur. So if you get a service call where one needs to be replaced, it’s best to ensure the job gets done right. This video guide will help walk you through how to replace an Ice-O-Matic GEM and MFI ice machine water seal so you ensure you’re not called back to fix a leak.
Water Seal Replacement
It’s recommended anytime you remove the auger to replace the water seal as well.
- Step 1. Remove the evaporator assembly – To better access needed components, you’ll need to power down the unit and remove the evaporator assembly from the ice machine. Be sure to consult the service manual for more detailed instructions on removing it.Â
- Step 2. Remove the auger – Loosen the top nut and all screws securing the auger in place. You can then lift the auger up and out of the evaporator assembly.
- Note: If the unit isn’t properly maintained the auger may be more difficult to take out. Use a slide hammer to help in those situations.Â
- Step 3. Remove the old water seal – While you can lift off the entire evaporator to access the seal and replace it, you’re also able to use some sort of stick with a hook at the end to help pull out the out seal instead. You’ll need to fish the hook under the seal so you can pull it up and out.
- Note: While you can remove the entire evaporator, this technique can help save time and prevent damages to refrigeration tubing.
- Step 4. Install the new seal – First grease the boot of the water seal. Then insert it back into the evaporator and push it as far down as you can. Then you can use the auger to help seat it in place by sliding that down and into place.Â
Step 5. Button up the unit – You can then secure the auger with the top nut and other screws before you reinstall it into the unit.
