Certain components on commercial ice machines are critical to keep the unit running properly. So when you have a service call for a part that won’t work, there’s some troubleshooting you need to do in order to get the unit running again. This guide will walk you through Manitowoc ice machine ice thickness probe control circuitry diagnostics so you can make the repair.
Manitowoc Ice Thickness Probe Diagnostics
These diagnostics are good to perform when a unit isn’t going into harvest.
Step 1. Press the probe – Press the ice thickness probe against the evaporator coil. The light on the control board should come on. If the light doesn’t come on, we need to determine if the probe or board is the problem.
Step 2. Disconnect the probe – Unplug the probe from the board.Â
Step 3. Test the Probe – Place an alligator clip onto the terminal you disconnected the probe from. Then touch the other end to any metal surface. The light should come on. If it doesn’t, then the probe is faulty and may need to be replaced.Â
Step 4. Ground out the board – If the light doesn’t come on when you ground out the board itself, then the board is faulty and may need to be replaced.
