Replacing Southbend Convection Oven Blower Motor & Fan
bytechtown
Convection ovens rely heavily on their blower assembly to evenly distribute air throughout the cavity and cook to perfection. So if you had a service call where one was faulty or just worn out beyond repair, you’re going to have to swap it out. This guide will walk you through replacing a Southbend convection oven blower motor and fan so you can get the job done properly.
How to Replace a Southbend Convection Oven Blower Assembly
Step 1. Remove the racks and baffle – Remove all the racks and slides. Then loosen the turn screws to remove the back baffle.
Step 2. Remove the blower assembly – The blower assembly is removed through the oven cavity. There are screws you can loosen around the fan. Keep in mind, two longer pegs are handles to help pull it out and aren’t screws you need to remove. Once the screws are removed you can just pull it out and into the cavity.
Note: Lay a piece of cardboard in the oven cavity to set the blower assembly after you remove it.Â
Step 3. Disconnect the blower motor – If you only need to replace the fan or motor, you need to separate the assembly. To start, remove the cap off the motor and disconnect the wires. You’ll have the following to separate:
Black to black – High speed wires
Red to red – Low speed wires
White to white – Neutral wires
Blue to blue – Output to centrifugal switch
Purple to orange – Purple is input to centrifugal switch and orange goes to the switch itself
Ground wire
Step 4. Disassemble the blower assembly – To continue disassembling the blower assembly, remove the blower wheel. Loosen the two bolts holding it to the shaft and slide it up and off. Then unmount the motor by loosening the four bolts.
Step 5. Assembly the blower assembly – To begin assembling your blower, start by mounting the new motor onto the metal plate with the four bolts.
Step 6. Inspect the shaft – Before putting the blower wheel onto the shaft, check that it isn’t damaged. There shouldn’t be any sort of corkscrew or grooves cut out around the shaft, replace the motor immediately.
Step 7. Install the blower wheel – Secure the fan on the shaft with the two bolts on the flat sides of the shaft. Be sure to also maintain â…›-¼ inch space between the wheel and back plate.Â
Step 8. Connect the wires – Reconnect all the wires and secure them with the caps before reinstalling the cover.
Step 9. Install the assembly – Slide the blower assembly back into place and begin hand tightening the screws. Then you can use a drill to finish securing them.Â
Step 10. Button up the unit – Remove the cardboard from the cavity and reinstall the baffle, slides and racks into the oven so it’s ready to go for the customer.Â
