Southbend Gas Range Thermostat Calibration: Ultimate, Platinum & S Series

Overtime, it's possible for oven temperatures to be off or out of calibration. To check and remedy this issue, this guide on Southbend gas range thermostat calibration can help. It focuses on range models from the Ultimate, Platinum and S Series.

Why Should You Calibrate a Southbend Range Thermostat?

There’s two situations where you need to calibrate the thermostat on a Southbend gas range:

  • When the temperatures aren’t correct for the customer
  • You just replaced the thermostat on the unit

How to Calibrate a Southbend Range Thermostat

  • Step 1. Disassemble the unit – To get proper access for thermostat calibration, you need to remove the thermostat knob. The burner knobs don’t need to be removed. Then open the oven.
  • Step 2. Set up the probe – Take your KX probe and center it on the oven rack. Then push the rack in and close the oven door.
  • Step 3. Check the oven temperature – Set the thermostat dial to 350. It can help to see which three temperatures the customers use the most so you can check and adjust for those three temps. Have your KX probe plugged into a meter and track the temperature it reaches once the oven finishes heating up. It needs to cycle at least 3 times. The temperature doesn’t have to reach exactly 350 since there’s a differential.
  • Step 4. Make adjustments – If the temperature reading is too far off from the differential, make adjustments to the thermostat and rerun your test until your readings are within the correct range.
