The Whalen Company Fan Coil Component Identification

Part identification is an essential part when it comes to handling service calls and repairs. That’s why we have a helpful guide to walk you through the steps. Follow along to learn more about The Whalen Company fan coil component identification, so you can prepare for any repairs or maintenance.

How Do I Identify Fan Coil Components?

Finding all the fan coil parts is easy if you know where they are located in the unit. Here are the steps you need to find every switch, relay and motor to identify:

  • Step 1. Remove fan cover – Take out the screws at the top and bottom of the fan cover. Behind the cover is where you’ll find the fan.
  • Step 2. Remove fan – When you remove the fan, you’ll notice two plugs connecting the fan. Unplug those to remove the fan from the unit.
  • Step 3. Identify aquastat – Behind the fan assembly is the aquastat, which senses the temperature of the water in the pipes.
  • Step 4. Access condensate – Remove the linkage nuts on the damper door to access the condensate drain on the left. TThe drain is a slip coupling that lifts up to allow the drain to be cleared.
  • Step 5.  Identify condensate overflow switch – With the bypass damper door open, find the condensate overflow switch across from the slip coupling.
  • Step 6. Find boiler drain – The boiler drain can be found in the back of the compartment. It should have a gate valve that lets you drain the water.
  • Step 7. Identify damper motor and relays – The damper motor and relay is located behind a plate with screws. To access the motor area, remove the damper linkage and take out the four screws on the plate. Be careful when removing the panel, the motor will be attached to the back of it.
  • Step 8. Identify compartment components – After removing the damper motor and plate, you can find the electric heat relay, control box, transformer and damper motor relay.
  • Step 9. Access parts behind supply grill – At the top of the unit, there’ll be a supply grill. Through the supply grill, you can find the unit disconnect, electric heat coil and the other half of the damper.
