Trane Rooftop HVAC Unit Heating Inspection Checklist
Clear debris – Check the area around the rooftop unit and make sure it’s free of debris.
Check ignition wire – In the heating section, check on the ignition wire. It should be coming all the way to the tip for a good connection.
Test gas valve – Test the gas valve located in the combustion compartment. Check that the pressure is properly calibrated to the manufacturer requirements.
Test inducer motor – Test the inducer motor and see if it’s running. You should amp out the motor and test it against what it’s called for.
Test inducer motor capacitor – If the inducer motor isn’t working, check if the capacitor is functional.
Inspect flame sensor – In the burner compartment, remove the flame sensor and test it. If the sensor is dirty, clean it and reinsert it back into the unit.
Test safety function – Check that the safety works by removing the pressure tube and seeing if the unit cuts off. Let it go through a reset, put the tube back on and let the unit turn back on.
