Most comps have a service stub coming out of one end which was crimped shut, that’s where you put em. On the suction side first and then once its all installed and you do the repair which will include emptying the system. You then braze in real service valves on both the service stub and the liquid side.
Don’t leave them piercing valves on there though, some will say they never leak and never had a problem but if youre gonna do it, do it right and braze a service valve in properly.
