How do you know it’s running too hot? The label is only marked 1 to 10.

If you feel like it’s running too hot – no matter what setting it’s at, then the thermostat is probably bad. Therefore,
I recommend you have the thermostat replaced. Additionally, you should have the regulating thermostat replaced as well.Â
I’m not there to observe or test it with my test equipment, but it’s very likely that the operating thermostat isn’t controlling AT ALL (just ON or OFF), so the regulating thermostat (essentially a high-limit) is getting a workout.

FWIW: That operating thermostat is an EGO thermostat. The cost for a replacement is minimal when compared to any efforts necessary to calibrate it. It is NOT user-serviceable and, although there IS a calibration procedure for those thermostats (which VERY FEW technicians know about), it requires considerable TIME, special tools and be removed in order to calibrate it.
