  • Ice machine harvest sensor wire

    Howdy.

I had a Scotsman ice machine that was erroring out on error code 8 which is thin ice.

I then pulled the curtain off and saw the wire that should be on the harvest sensor just hanging down and in the stream of water, so I figured that’s where the problem was.

I thought just stripping the wire and re-crimping it would be good and it did work but I was wondering what kind of wire it was? It seemed like ignition cable used in Vulcan convection ovens, not just a single wire or stranded, kind of odd.

    Anybody know?

I suspect your working on perhaps a CME.  Regardless, It sounds like the ice bridge sensor wire is what your referring to.  Yes it is a single wire that senses currant flow through the water to the grounded evaporator. Yes, micro amps like a flame sensor. They will false sense if not cleaned, rinsed, and dried.

      Hey Fixbear,

I’m aware of what the sensor does, this is what it looks like.

The wire for it is what I’m asking about, it’s not a regular wire, seems like it’s similar wire like what’s used on spark control ignition type systems, kind of like a fiber wire, not just copper.

I know that the insulation has to be really good and not be able to adsorb any moisture,  But if it’s not copper, it may be a resistance wire. I’ve never cut one or had one break. Probably a Teflon and woven glass and graphite if a resistance wire.  I know that the sensing is very delicate.

It’s just like ignition cable, seems like some sort of fabric or nylon and it seems like there is 1 thread of copper running through it, but it’s not like a normal wire.

I cut it, stripped it and crimped a new connector on it and it read just fine and it’s working fine now, I was just wondering what kind of wire it was.

Have you ever stripped ignition wire before? that’s the only thing I can compare it to.
