Ice-O-Matic CIM Purge Valve Replacement & Cleaning Instructions
Over time, parts can get worn out, dirty and even damaged. Thus, a tech can expect calls for removing and installing new ones. So if your next service call is for an ice machine you aren’t very familiar with or just haven’t worked on in a while, it might make you uncertain of how to switch out that part. Fret not about uncertainty. This video guide will ensure you have the Ice-O-Matic CIM purge valve replacement and cleaning instructions you need to get the unit running like new.
The following instructions are applicable to CIM units such as the CIM0320, CIM0335 and CIM0525.
Cleaning
To keep the purge valve in working order, it can help to occasionally clean it.
- Step 1. Remove the front, top and side panels.
- Step 2. Hold the black base with one hand.
- Step 3. Push down on the top of the valve and turn it with the other handÂ
- Step 4. Remove the valve and plunger
- Note. Be careful not to lose components attached to the plunger.
- Step 5. Flush out any debris present in the valve with water.
Replacement
If the purge valve has been deemed completely inoperable, it’s time to replace it. Be sure to power down the unit before beginning to disassemble.
- Step 1. Remove the front panel – Loosen the two screws at the bottom of the panel so you can slide it up and off the unit.
- Step 2. Remove the top panel – Lift up on the top panel and push it backwards to remove it.
- Step 3. Remove the side panel – This panel just lifts up and out.Â
- Step 4. Remove the valve and plunger – Hold the black base with one hand, while you push down and twist the top of the valve with your other hand. You can then remove the valve and plunger.
- Note. Be careful not to lose components attached to the plunger.
- Step 5. Disconnect wires – Pull to disconnect the two wires from the removed portion of the valve.Â
- Step 6. Unmount remaining portion of purge valve – Use a screwdriver to remove the remaining part of the purge valve in the unit.Â
- Step 7. Disconnect tubing – Remove the two C clamps to disconnect the tubing from the purge valve.
- Step 8. Connect the new valve – Connect the tubing to the new purge valve and secure them with the C clamps. Then connect the two wires to the valve terminals as well.
- Step 9. Mount the purge valve – Slide the purge valve over the stud and secure it with the screws and a screwdriver.Â
- Step 10. Reinstall panels – Reinstall the side, top and front panels in the reverse order of how they were disassembled.Â
