I assume you are talking about a Garland range of there SX series. What gas is it on and what model range?
Â
You will need a manometer to accuratly test this oven and a good knowledge of gas controls. Start by testing the incoming gas line pressure. Does the pilot stay lit?Â
Â
They used both TS11F and BASO safety valves, so you will have to identify the type. Pictures are in this parts manual;Â
Â
Needed pressures are in the operation manual:
-
Some times dirty burners, Venturi tubes, orifice, regulator vent tends to be the issue before a thermostat or the safety issue.Â

Looking at the parts manual, I see there’s a BJ thermostat for controlling the oven burner. If it’s failed, there will still be a flame – but only a “bypass” flame. Obviously not a full flame when there’s a call for heat.
Â
Here’s what a BJ thermostat looks like:
Â
If that’s whatcha got and the only oven burner flame you’re getting, no matter what you set the temperature to, looks something like what’s in this video –
Oven with only the bypass flame working
…then you need a new oven thermostat.
Â
The BJ thermostat is NOT “plug-n-play”. Once installed, it requires proper adjustments. Qualified technicians know that. If you simply install it without those adjustments, then the oven won’t work right.

Credit to PartsTOWN for the picture.

BTW: Don’t expect other videos on Youtube to give proper adjustment procedures. Those are just for calibration. They don’t cover procedures for properly installing of a BJ thermostat.
