It has a spring against the screen inside to keep all the discussant pellets tight so they don’t powder from vibration. Also allows relief in back mode when exhausting system.

thanks fixbear, i was a little worried it was some exotic check-valve combo filter dryer.  For some reason, on a bev air wtf-48a worktable top freezer it had a small inline check valve immediately after the filter dryer.  Bev air tech said they had no clue as to why one would be on that unit, so i’m not going to worry about putting it back on.

Are you certain it is a check valve?  Should be direct to the cap tube.
