  • what controls the water level in a cm500ae-1d ice maker reservoir?

Does the water inlet solenoid do a “timed” water flow into the reservoir or does it have something that tells it when the water is low and it opens to fill tank to proper level?

Most likely its controlled by a sensor in the sump, most ice machines are that way since you never know how full it is, so using a timer would be a bit risky.

    What’s the problem?

Not on this oldie olivero.  This is  a CM, not a CME.  The water level control was a overflow in the pan right rear corner..  When the machine goes into harvest the water solenoid would open and fill the reservoir to overfill so that it would carry off any forien particulates..

Interesting, I just guess on most of these ice machines as they seem to be the same.

It has a mechanical timer with adjustable cam and micro-switch.  The timer sets idle till the tail coil thermostat gets to the cube set temperature (used for cube size control).  Then runs 7 min. to make full cube. (Couture cube)  Trips over to harvest and fill.  Tank holds proper amount for a full batch.  Machine cycle is about 14 min to 17 min. depending on ambient temps.
