I cannot imagine why you would add oil, thunderbird likes to use packed grease for their gears and bearings. If it’s been 20 years and its starting now to make noise I would say you got your moneys worth, breaking it open to replace bearings and gears on a machine that old would probably cost the same on a newer model

So, here’s the manual for the Thunderbird TB-300E meat grinder:

    http://download.partstown.com/is-bin/intershop.static/WFS/Reedy-PartsTown-Site/-/en_US/manuals/THN-TB-300E_iom.pdf

In the manual, it explains the disassembly process and says, yes, you should put some oil on the surface of the steel plate and cutter. It does not specify how much, only saying “some oil.”

As far as the gears, the manufacturer says this unit is grease packed with no oil changing needed.

John,  they are talking about placing a drop of oil on ones finger and wiping it over the blade and die.
