Looking over the parts breakdown for this unit, does not appear to have any internal water filter.

Most likely an external filter was whatever unit the installing technician was provided.

Look on the filter housing for brand, model and replacement cartridge information.

Scotsman recommends having your water tested to ensure you are purchasing the correct filter for the water in your area.

As mentioned below, the first prerequisite is to have a filter that removes suspended solids to 5 microns or less. But, that type of filter will not necessarily alter the pH of your water. Remember, water that is safe to drink isn’t necessarily good enough for your ice machine.

A new ice machine isn’t cheap. Consider spending a few bucks to ensure long life of your machine and have your water tested if you don’t have any information on it currently. It could save you in the long run.

No manufacturer supplies a water filter with the machine, but as a accessory due to the wide variation in water quality. If you are on a well system you will have to have a water company test your water. usually they do it free to determine what they need to sell you a softener or filter system that is correct for your conditions. Optionally if you are on a municipal system the local water department has to keep records of test’s and can provide you with a detailed copy of their water. On their system you will need a charcoal at minimum to remove chlorine.  On water cooled machines you have to make sure you place the filter system on the ice making water, not the cooling water.

   Charcoal (taste and odor filter) solid block filters come in 1 micron up to 10 micron in the standard 2 inch by 10 inch cartridge. There are also solid injector cartridges that are used for clarity and to protect plating on the ice plates.

This I know. This would have been a great time for John B (Parts Town Admin) to say “We carry xx brand system, with xx cartridge, or xx cartridge, depending on your needs. Have your water tested etc”.

 

As a PT Holdings service tech, we are beinging pressured into Safety 1st, selling second.

I seem to remember a seminar speaker specifically saying not to use clorine-reducing filters on ice machines, as the clorine will deter mold/fungus growth, yes?

 

I may be wrong, as I do mostly hot-side equipment, and being an old phart, I don’t get to be trained much anymore…
