  • Coincidence Or Causation? Manitowoc Air Assist

Posted by Anonymous on February 14, 2024 at 12:00 pm

Just got to a job where I found a Manitowoc ice machine had went into an HPCO fault.
When doing an assessment of the machine I also found that the air compressor for the harvest assist instead of a mechanical one and its wires melted together I’ve never worked on a unit with an air assist before and don’t know much about how they work compared to a mechanical one. Could this be coincidence or causation?

Are the wires in a harness with the high pressure cut out? If not, it’s a coincidence. The air comes on during harvest just like the push rod did. It works better than the mechanical system as it breaks the water seal instead of just applying pressure to the ice sheet in the center. You’ll also find that it isn’t as sensitive to bridge thickness.
