Condensers don’t freeze up. I assume you mean evaporator. You’ll need to have a good multimeter to test the defrost circuit, controller, and thermistors. Does the controller go into defrost? Are the fans turning off and the heater getting power. Sometime the defrost relay burns out. other times the defrost heater or wiring to the heater goes out. You can test for line voltage on the back of the controller for power to the defrost when the controller is in defrost. when unpowered, you can ohm the defrost circuit to see if it has continuity. There may also be a high temp Klixon on the end of the evaporator coil that can be open.

I forgot to mention, if your getting a LA alarm, You may have a bad thermistor in the control system But it should still cycle a defrost every 6 to 12 hours and de-ice.
