Oscilloscope, does anyone own or use one and how useful do you find it with modern equipment ?.

Yes, to both questions. But unless your deep into finding a very rare problem or working on bench electronics they are costly, and you will not be using it as much as think. That said, if you suspect a power problem and have had equipment multiple failures that are unexplained, they may be the tool to find it. They are sensitive. And with our trade, you will need a triple trace.

Hey buddy: Thanks for the reply, Glad it’s not just me. The reason I asked is that another tech was at my workshop yesterday and saw my scope on charge before going out to a job. I’m apparently a mug for wasting my money on a piece of kit that will never be used in our industry.

Now I totally agree it’s not something that’s used on a daily or even a weekly basis, but there have been times when looking for a weird or intermittent fault that I was pretty glad that I own a portable scope and know how to use it.

Have a good weekend and Christmas.
