  • Pitco – TBSFSSH55 Heat Failure Error

Posted by Anonymous on December 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm

I have a Pitco Taco Bell version of the self filtering Solstice fryer that has started acting up as of late.

First strange behavior was the self cleaning burner solenoid making a buzzing/rattling noise at start up. Rather than opening then closing, I sounds like it is opening and closing rapidly for the duration of the SCB cycle.

Now I am getting the same kind of sound/behavior from the relay board followed by a Heat Failure error even though the burner is on.

I have checked to make sure I am getting 24v at the board and got a reading of 26.5v. Any recommended troubleshooting steps? I suspect the relay board itself, but don’t want to just throw parts at the problem!

I haven’t had a chance to dig into the relay board further, but after replacing it I have had no problems on startup and call for heat. The solenoid for the SCB opens and closes correctly and no more relay chattering.

If I get a chance, I will take a look at the components on the relay board itself and see if any of the diodes or rectifiers have failed.

Solid state boards operate on DC. Gas valves can be AC or DC. So you have to check the tag. If the gas valve is AC, then there will be a relay on the board for it. But in any case, there will also be a time factor for flame recognition to clear. Often they use flame rectification by sending a AC voltage over the sensor ignition probe and measure the return voltage on the burner ground looking for a greater than 10 milliamps DC.

Reason I say this, is I too have used the wrong scale on my DVM testing. When you have one chattering, Attach your leads with clamps and set Min/Max to monitor the valve. It will see what you can’t due to delays in meter posting.
