  • Scotsman MDT2C12A-1A Not Making & Dispensing Ice

Posted by Anonymous on August 22, 2024 at 11:30 am

Our less than a year old Scotsman MDT2C12A-1A is not Making & Dispensing Ice.

The water dispenser part of the machine is working without issue. We only use filtered water through the machine. It would appear water is not getting to the part of the machine that produces the ice. Pump issue? Valve issue?

    Thank you.

I haven’t come across that one. But with all of the small machine similar to that, have you de-powered it to reboot it?. I haven’t seen any documentation on this one yet I’ll have to dig to see what I can find.

Ok, found a manual on it. The sensors for the water may be your problem. The machine has a 2 year warranty, so you may be better served by calling your Scotsman dealer.

You never told us what the control panel lights are indicating.

Thank you for the response. We have gone through all the procedures of reset, power off, cleaning sensor eye and same results. Upon startup, it powers up in all ways as normal for about two seconds and then goes into a limp mode. The ice bin full light indicator is on with clearly no ice at all in the bin. A new sensor eye has been purchased for the first step. When we purchased the machine last year from a deal “New”, it was considered old stock and likely would not have any warranty.

That would most likely be the water conductivity probe. Located in the sump top cover. Looks like a pin with a wire connected to the top and is in the water under the cover. It tells the auger system that there is water in the icemaking chamber. If you are using RO water, then there may not be enough salts in the water to be sufficiently conductive. Remove the cover and scrub it with a scotchlite pad .

Extruder machines have a water sump above the auger. Just a simple float system with the water level just below the ice chute outlet. The eye’s are just to shut off the bin full. The water sensor will be a rod that is mounted to sense water. When immersed it will conduct about 3 milliamps.

Now the bin full being lit will prevent startup on the ice system. There are 2 eyes, not one. One generates the IR light, the other reads that it is clear and will allow icemaking. Fortunately on this machine, it’s a one piece saddle. Make sure the 2 LED eyes have a clear path between them. Powered you can have it out and test it by just moving your finger between them as you watch the control board light.
