That depends on the intended use and size of the toolbox. My first one was made out of tin. But you need a shear and brake to make that. My carpentry box is oak re-enforcement with veneer and plywood. 1″ dowel handle with leather pockets for chisels, screwdrivers, and ruler. Also, a protected slot for a 2 ft level. Sheetmetal, I use a Klien canvas bag. Same for plumbing, electrical marking, fastening and tape. ie; Nyties.

Baltic Birch Plywood is what we use in BC for custom cabinet drawers. It doesn’t have any voids in the plywood layers so you can router the edges without worrying about the voids. It is also exceptionally strong.
