  • Combi Oven Detergent Pump

Posted by guest on December 29, 2016 at 12:00 am

I had an error come up tonight with one of my Combi Ovens, OGS 20.20 combi oven.

Saying detergent is low pressure or the fancy version of “Low agent pressure”. I tried removing the pump as it was vibrating a lot but its one of those pumps that don’t really come apart, did not want to wreck it completely by trying but I am not sure if the pump is the problem or not but didn’t want to get too deep into it as I figured someone would have an idea as to what it would be.

Seems like its not getting detergent or not pumping it, I tried disconnecting the outlet of the pump to see if it was pumping liquid out and it was more of a sputter than a spray.

The system has 3 solenoids 2 different detergents, 1 detergent is tied into 2 of the solenoids where the other detergent is tied into the third solenoid. Then they go to the pump and into the oven but the pumps inlet and outlet is the same connection (is this making any sense?)

So there you go, I am fairly confused and will be emailing Cleveland to get help but figured I would try for help here as well.

Sounds like your pump is sucking air. Check your containers to be full, and lines not damaged or cracked.or suction blocked.

Our earlier CPC-line Rationals had that same setup which, I was told, was very problematic.  When I started here in 2012, our guys had already stripped those old CPCs of their cleaning systems.

Rational’s next oven line (SCC beginning in 2004) did away with liquid cleaning agents, the multitude of pumps, hoses and sprinkler heads…and went to cleaning tablets.  With a far simpler design and much fewer components involved in the oven’s self-cleaning process, there’s far less to go wrong.

Not a sales pitch here.  Just glad I don’t need to deal with that earlier design.

All I can suggest is based on recurring issues we have with our dish machines using liquid detergents.  Look for a blockage in the detergent lines somewhere.  Maybe the chemical crystallized somewhere in the line or…as I’ve seen repeatedly, a mass of coagulated detergent that’s blocking a check valve or something.

Wear your rubber gloves and face protection when you tear into it.

Okay cool, I will have to look at that then, seems like the pump is trying but its not getting anything to pump, either that or its faulty.

Well, just found out they are not solenoids but pumps, the thing I removed was the pressure switch

I thought that item 4 & 7 (the pressure switch) was the pump….. lol.

I have a hard time believing 3 pumps failed at the same time, its been running today, cleaned 3 times and none of them called error codes….. I hate when the problem goes away.

What type of pumps are they?

    Oscillating pumps.

Three separate pumps and suction lines, common discharge manifold, one pressure switch, air in discharge.

    Interesting problem.

Have you checked that all three pumps discharge air and bubbles? It would take 2 valves on one pump for a circulation back to happen. Not likely. Has to be one pump sucking air. Vibratory pumps are very reliable and self cleaning valves due to rapid slams. But they are noisy.

No, I thought I checked it but what I did do was disconnect the outlet side of the pressure switch, the side going to the oven and ran the pump or pumps, however they work when being tested. There was a sputter of detergent coming out of the pressure switch, not a stream like what I would expect from 3 different pumps.

but it only runs one chemical at a time. the pump that is vibrating is where you problem is.

Right, but what problem should I expect? Should I just order a new pump so I have one in case or will it be a partially blocked hose or something.

    Trying to get ahead
